REVELATION. WHAT IS REVELATION?

To present revelation forcefully to the student’s thought, it must be shown to be the appearing to the human understanding of the things that already are. Christian Science has created nothing new, it has established no new law, neither has it departed from the law of God as illustrated in the words and works of Jesus.

WHERE IS REVELATION OPERATIVE?

Revelation is operative in consciousness, in thought only. Man can be conscious of nothing except the activities of thought. Then revelation is the appearing of the law of God, and this appearing is in the human consciousness. The laws of God are laws of Mind or mental activity.

To be the law of God the mental activity must of necessity be absolutely good, or based on absolute good as the Principle of all true lawful mental activity.

Christian Science, therefore, thinks and acts from the standpoint of absolute good, absolute right, absolute justice, absolute patience, absolute unselfishness. Such mental activity uncovers, reveals, exposes the nature and action of evil, which discovery enables the student to discern between the things that are and the errors of thought which

are constantly putting themselves in the place of things that are.

Consciousness is what it is conscious of-the things that are.

The student’s thought, awakened to the revelation of the nature, potency and omnipresence of God, begins at once to weigh thoughts, to analyze the thoughts that control him, and as the analysis continues, the facts of being begin to dawn in consciousness. The student applies what he perceives, and gets a result. The result marks the birth-hour of faith, and as he turns his thought to the application of the facts of being, the proofs of an absolute mental law, that is always present and always operative, accumulate, until faith enlarges the mental scope and becomes understanding, conviction.

The condition of consciousness that was enabled to perceive such revelation of the things that be, of necessity is a unit with the revelation. Therefore, the revelation, and consciousness to which the revelation is revealed, or the revelator, are one.

This is a practical common sense statement of logic, and, therefore, admits of no sentimental gush or foolish enthusiasm about the personality of the one whose consciousness became pure enough to perceive or discern the presence of good, the presence of an ever-operative law, unfailing law, so true, that if understood will help us in unwinding the tangled net of theories in which mortals become ensnared.

Christian Science did not come to the world through personality. It could come to the world in no other way than the consciousness of that which is.

Mrs. Eddy is a consciousness which has rid itself of much materiality. Deep study, experimental research, had cleared the thought of much of the theory that blinds mortals, and so that state of consciousness became free and pure enough to be a clear transmitter for Truth-the Truth that is ever-operative as never failing law, that governs the universe and man.

Was it consciousness or personality that discerned the facts of being? Consciousness. And for this very reason, Mrs. Eddy admonishes students to refrain from worshipping the personality. You may, and legitimately can, love her in the sense that you would love a benefactor, but do not worship, nor gush, nor grow sentimental over the personality. There is a dignified middle ground to be taken in this relation. Love the personality as a friend and benefactor, and as you thus love, see that that is the condition of consciousness that has so unfolded under the influence of right thinking that it is able to expresses itself to mortals.

It is consciousness that teaches. It is consciousness that sees and embraces the whole of God’s law. Such consciousness partakes of the nature and operation of good and is, therefore, the Christ, or condition of mind lived by Jesus, whom we name Christ.

Elevate your own thought on this point. Show your student that he will progress faster by getting away from any sense of yourself as a personal teacher.

Great care must be used in selecting students.

One suffering from chronic or severe sickness should not be admitted to class as a student. Heal him first, else you will have a weakling for a student, or one who will expect constant work on his case from his teacher.

THE SCIENCE OF BEING

WHAT IS GOD? WHAT IS PRINCIPLE?

WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE?

WHAT IS TRUTH?

Show the material sense to be falsities. They are nothing because not the true sense of man. The senses of man being spiritual, the physical senses cannot hear, see, taste nor touch (perceive) God. The fact that God is Spirit and can be seen (perceived) by man, proves man’s senses to be spiritual. Therefore, we must change our point of view; reverse our reasoning. The whole trouble lies in entertaining a perverted sense of God. The right sense begins by amplifying infinite Mind, that which is, that which is eternal, which is all-inclusive, Mind, the one Mind.

Consciousness is, and it is conscious of the things that are-supreme, incorporeal being, all-powerful, all-inclusive, ever-operative law, and is God manifesting as man and the universe.

Define Principle. It is origin, operative cause, source, etc. Show connection between Principle and intelligence. Principle being operative cause, this operation of necessity includes one law, and law is the result of the activity of intelligence, or is included in intelligence. Next show intelligence and Truth to be so clearly synonymous that they cannot be separated. They cannot be defined separately. They are, and express, the actual spiritual law. We see that God is Principle because He is operative cause and includes all law.

PERSONAL GOD

You may say that you believe that God is not personal, but if you believe He knows death or perceives evil, you are making Him personal in every sense.

THE PEACE OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

Think of the unanimity of thought regarding two plus two equals four. The world believes it and accepts it. It is sufficient to supply each of us-all of us, with the idea. There are no wars over it, no strife, no disputes-all is peace and tranquility regarding it. It is not disturbed, neither does it fear it ever will be or ever can be changed or per-

verted. It is. This is simply a forerunner of the full acceptance of the Science of being and its absoluteness. Because we find God impersonal, we need never feel alone. He is the impersonal Truth with us-God with us in idea and so as recognition. We can feel that to all intents and purposes being-with-us is the mental activity that destroys evil. Then, God-with-us destroys evil as effectually as though He knew it.

ONENESS OF MIND

Mind is the cause; Life, continuity of man. Therefore, what man has that fails him and finally dies is not his mind-intelligence or Life-but human theory and conjecture; a finite sense of cause, intelligence, purpose and operation, with no analogy whatever to law, order or wisdom. Show further that man is giving up nothing when he relinquishes his belief in minds many-human knowledge-but, on the contrary, is gaining a broader outlook upon the world, a firmer grasp upon the eternal possibilities of an operative law-giving and law-enforcing intelligence.

GOD IS LOVE, MIND, SPIRIT, LIFE

Show Mind to be God, omnipotence, omnipresence, the sole cause, Principle or origin of the universe and man. Love, is, therefore, used for a synonym for God, Mind, intelligence, the sole cause, the only creator, the sole government, and

not a separate existence. Spirit as synonym cannot be separated from Love. It is consciousness because intelligence, Mind, becomes conscious intelligence, God-for God is all-inclusive Mind. Therefore, God expressing Himself as consciousness or Mind, is man. Man is the expression, the evidence of Spirit, consciousness, Mind. Hence, Spirit expresses itself as man in conscious living and thinking. Right thinking is living and is Spirit-consciousness-Mind expressing itself.

What is it to be spiritually-minded? To be faithful to Principle, to right, to Truth, is spiritual mindedness.

The letter of Christian Science is the correct statement. Without the correct statement, one does not know to what end he may work.

The Spirit means the ever-consciousness of Love, Life, Mind, Principle, Spirit. Love, the only consciousness, is ever active. This activity is expressed in living. Hence Life is God; living is God expressing Himself. Right thinking is Life. To be spiritually-minded is to be actuated by right motives, viz., promptness, wisdom, justice, mercy, goodness.

Perfect consciousness does not need sleep. Substance needs no sleep. There is no substance in such a belief; no cause. It cannot be used by animal magnetism as a law. There is no such law to influence man. Man is not constitutionally

liable to any such law. There is no mortal mind to frame any such law. God’s law alone controls man’s consciousness.

A clear knowledge of these facts breaks down the fear occasioned by loss of sleep, and the desired action takes place.

Omnipresence defines the ever-presence of consciousness. Because Mind and all its ideas include all there can be, there is no other condition of thought to have or to find presence in infinite Mind, infinite good.

In infinite Mind there can be no space because Mind is or fills all presence. The term space implies limitation or boundary. It finds its origin in a mortal sense of measurement. To mortals, the distances intervening between objects, persons, places and things is called space. In infinite Mind there is no such sense of location and boundary. Therefore, to boundless Mind there is no sense of limitation, but one of all-encompassing boundlessness.

Does God fill the space occupied by a cancer? The mentality expressing itself as cancer is not presence. Cancer has no presence, no space, and no time in which to express itself. There is no mortal mind to be present, no matter to manifest it, and no manifestation, no cancer.

Time is to be analyzed on the same premise as space. Time is a human sense of measuring eternity. Eternity is boundless, measureless. Eternity is

omnipresent. Is two plus two equals four omnipresent? Does it not continue to be omnipresent, wherever it is, wherever you are, everywhere?

What is omnipotence? Action? Law? Universe?

Omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, omni-action, Mind, Life, Truth, God are a unit. God embraces, and is, all-power, all-action, all-science or knowing, all-presence, the only presence, and is also Life, Love and Truth.

Omnipotence is omnipresence and action because God, Mind and intelligence. Good is omnipotent. Truth is omnipotent. Evil and error are excluded and impossible as Mind, presence or Truth.

Omnipotence is Principle because Principle is operative cause and must embrace intelligence, Mind. Then Principle is omnipotent.

What is the government by Principle? It is the action of law, Mind as active, infinite intelligence is of necessity law, for all orderly continuous activity is law. The active energy emanating from Mind is law and it is eternally established-the directed energy of infinite Mind.

Illustration. A case of abnormal growth comes for destruction.

I am ignorant of the mortal mind method of disposing of such growths. To dispose of it scientifically, I stake the stand that it has no presence. Matter is not substance. Such reasoning is omnipotent and is presence and breaks down the claim of law that matter is substance, and the growth disappears.

What heals or destroys the abnormity? The government of Principle. Principle is omnipotent knowing. Every treatment should know enough to know itself omnipotent; to know there is nothing to reverse it, to hinder its knowing or unfolding, or to cause evil or relapse. Every treatment is with power for the Word is with God and the Word is God, and it must know this, else it is not a treatment. Destroy the claim of cause in matter and abolish the law that says there can be a law other than the law of God, the government of and by Principle.

There are three things to meet in every case.

A belief in substance (substance can’t be sick).
A belief in cause.
A belief in law.

Every treatment must know that the government of Principle is the activity of operative cause. It is the energy emanating from the right thought.

The universe is spiritual because all cause is Spirit, Mind. The flower, bird, landscape, rock, house, stomach, eye, hand, arm, leg, head, all are spiritual. Mortals, placing substance, cause, law as matter and material, of necessity view things from a material point of view. And this is all that ever makes them seem sick and dying. When mortals change their viewpoint, we will have flowers that cannot fade, birds, animals, men that

cannot sicken and die, and stomachs that cannot be disturbed, legs that cannot be lame, eyes that cannot be blind, as matter.

The true flowers, birds, stomach, man are governed by so-called laws of matter (belief only) which if not broken by the apprehension of Spirit and spiritual law will go on being governed to ultimate discord and destruction.

The flower, tree, bird, insect, stomach, man, as matter, are evil. In other words, they express the evil sense of what bird, tree, etc. are.

Does evil require matter, then, to express itself?

No, it requires belief only, which fulfills all of its own conditions, creates its own outlines, deforms its own limbs, all in consonance with its beliefs in matter as substance, mind as mortal, cause as material, and law as the activity of mortal mind.

Love is omnipotent and omnipresent because it is infinite Mind embracing all that emanates therefrom. It is Principle because operating. It is omnipotent and omnipresent intelligence because it stills strife, assuages grief, heals sickness; in short, heals every claim of matter as substance, cause, law, and sets man’s capacities free to use omnipotence as his sovereign birthright. It deals in justice, in gentle consideration, in courtesy, in kindness, and it sweetens character, happifies homes, heals broken hearts, bestows contentment and peace, establishes the kingdom of God among men.

What is man?

Generic man is the sum total of all the ideas of Mind, God, or the one perfect intelligence expressed in multitudinous ideas which are forever unfolding from the boundless basis of infinity. The ideas are essentially the same, yet each performing a separate and distinct office. All are necessary to a complete man, who is the full representative of Mind, the likeness and image of God, which includes all right ideas. Man is the knowledge of God. Then, knowing is man.

Individual man is what I know about God as Mind. It is what I have been able to consciously discern of the knowledge of God. This is my individuality.

The activity of Mind, expressing itself as idea, is man.

The activity of Mind expressing itself as Life (idea) was the impulse that wrought the resurrection from the tomb. It was action as man, and such activity is the Saviour, your Saviour and mine, from the finite sense of death or mortality.

God and all the synonyms analyze infinity as changeless, undying consciousness. Man’s consciousness is Mind. It is intelligent consciousness. It is omnipotent consciousness. It is the one omnipotent consciousness forever thinking (expressing), and that expression is idea, or man.

The sum total of the ideas thus forever expressing themselves is man.

Such activity identifies and establishes the one presence of God as operative cause or Principle. Without such expressing, God, or Principle, would be an inactive non-entity, no God. “The fool hath said in his heart there is no God,” no Mind.

Man is, because God as his Principle, cause, origin, is.

Without a Principle forever expressing itself as ideas, there would be neither universe nor man. The universe is the expression of Mind’s ideas. Man is the highest and fullest expression. Man’s consciousness includes the ideas of tree, bird, flower, animal, body. This explains man’s dominion, control, over the entire universe, himself subject to no control but that of Mind, from which he, as idea, devises his control over the lesser ideas which aggregate to make up the lesser universe.

Then it is God, Mind, that exercises the dominion and not the idea, man, that controls the universe and man. Man and the universe are the evidence of God’s, Mind’s, activity, law, order and continuity. Man is the evidence of God.

There is not a God and a man reflecting God. But man is God made manifest. Or, in other words, man manifests what God is.

Man’s government is God. He governs by God and is governed by God. Therefore his possibilities are equal, co-equal with God, for he is the full expression of Mind including and expressing all that Mind contains.

So now we have a perfect God and perfect man

as our basis of reasoning. What does it do? It uncovers error.

What is error? The exact opposite of perfect God and man; the exact reverse of all truly scientific statements of God and man. The perfect basis for thought uncovers error as a false claim of cause. It uncovers a false claim of life, of intelligence, of selfhood.

In short, what does error claim to be? It claims to be mind, and it claims to be mortal. Then we call it mortal mind.

What does error operate through? It operates through belief.

What is matter? Matter is a belief made manifest.

Mortal mind, operating through belief, manifests that belief, and names it matter, and declares that matter is composed of atomic aggregation, declares that all matter is organized. And so it is.

Everything that is organized is cognized. You may change its form by combustion or other chemical processes, but it is still organized matter because palpable to the senses.

What is the atom that is supposed to aggregate and call itself matter? It cannot be discerned with the naked eye nor with the most powerful lens. It cannot be tasted, felt, heard. Then the atom is but a theory, and we have no place to go for it but to mortal mind that evolved it. The only conclusion to be drawn is that which mortals see, feel, hear, taste, touch, is belief and its expression.

Mortal mind’s first concept is to increase itself, calling itself animating, producing cause. Now, cause is infinite Mind, only-one cause, one God, one Mind. Mortal mind divides causation with many minds, and needs a man and a woman to reproduce its own species.

The senses of man are spiritual. Spiritual being is Mind and all joy, peace, purity, understanding emanating from Mind, the only cause. There can be no material senses for Spirit’s senses are all, and Spirit, Mind, cannot produce its opposite. Or, in other words, the effect of any cause must of necessity partake of its producing cause. And Spirit cannot produce a sense that is material.

Thus, we find mortal mind belief and lust the supposed cause of man, requiring a mortal man and woman with a belief of sensation in matter standing in consciousness in the place of one Mind, omnipotent as creator.

In the counterfeit “scientific statement of being,” all is mortal mind and its mortal manifestation. It needs only belief. It needs no matter, and there is none.

Here you have the mortal known as Adam and Eve-evil mind and its belief or manifestation-matter, so-called. In mortal mind and its beliefs operating as matter we have its offspring, Cain and Abel. Cain stands for malice, hate, jealousy, fear, revenge, etc. Abel, the more nearly good state of consciousness. At the juncture where Cain and Abel are operating, man’s need begins, and, as

thought advances, we have Abraham-an attenuated state of consciousness or evil disappearing. We find Abraham declaring God almighty. Then we follow down to get in Abraham the state of conscious thought that is sufficiently elevated to see what is the falsity of mortal mind’s idolatrous beliefs-an elevated thought, but still in the condition of consciousness yet believing in sensuousness. We go further and find the Isaacs and Jacobs all getting glimpses of divinity, yet still mortals in their tendencies. Jacob was in the line with the law of good, because Abraham (the thought from which he was evolved) saw God. Yet Jacob was a sensuous, corporeal mortal. He deceived his father, cheated his brother, indulged in dishonest thought, until he feared death and fled to escape it. Here comes in a sense of conviction and expectance, and we have the word picture of Jacob’s wrestling with an angel to illustrate his recognition of evil and his overcoming it in a degree.

Then comes Moses, who saw the error clearly, but believed it to be real, and from this belief grew the framing of the law “Thou shalt not.” In the material evolution of thought sprang a simple pastoral people, a people who named their children after God; God with us, God our strength, God our salvation, etc.

From out these people came the prophets or conditions of consciousness catching glimpses of the nature and evolution of Mind, God, and its laws. Following the inevitable line of reasoning

from the premises of the glimpses of Mind’s infinite operations, they were thus enabled to prophesy the coming or appearing of a condition of consciousness that would be a Saviour from falsity.

The next step is the Virgin Mary, who, through her pure thought discovered that man does not produce man. We then have a consciousness containing the qualities of motherhood, but we have no father. A higher and clearer illumination of this thought brings a clear active sense of the fatherhood of God and what is termed the Immaculate Conception takes place. And, according to human usage, the prescribed number of days having elapsed, Mary’s immaculate conception, idea, is brought forth in visible manifestation as the infant Jesus, Saviour. This is what the world calls the Immaculate Conception. Was it? No, because in belief or to human sense it took on a human form. The impersonal idea of the Christ is immaculate to the Christian Scientist because incorporeal.

Infinite Mind provides for the continuity and perpetuity of its own ideas. Mortal mind means dead mind, and it provides for its own destruction, and also for its own reproduction, not perpetuity. It goes on dying and reproducing, believing it is perpetuating man, when it is only perpetuating its own beliefs, which will continue their evolution until met and demolished by the facts of being.

In Science, we find Mind directly and con-

sciously containing all its own ideas. In other words, Mind governs and sustains the universe and man. Mortal mind’s man is sustained by dead matter, by the food he eats, all of which must decompose or die for his sustenance. He kills animals and fowls in order that he may sustain his claim to life, or dead flesh. Even the wheat he eats is crushed and destroyed as wheat for his sustenance. Thus we see that mortal mind’s man feeds on death in order to sustain life-a contradiction from beginning to end, confusion, non-intelligence.

God, Mind, is not the author of confused ideas, a union of death and life. Intelligence is not the author of a law that kills life to sustain life. Life is God and is self-contained and self-sustained. The eternal omnipresent consciousness, the presence and activity of God’s ideas which do not, cannot, depend on dead matter for life, sustenance and continuity.

Is stomach a part or idea in or of consciousness?

Stomach is an idea of God and whatever stomach is, as God’s idea, it is spiritual and perfect.

What would you say of a tumor in the stomach?

What is it a lie about? Stomach or God? It is a lie about God because it is a claim of defective action. There is, therefore, no tumor, but belief comes up and says, claims, that the action of man’s body can become defective.

Body is spiritual, governed entirely by infinite Mind as an idea in infinite Mind, and therefore its action cannot be disturbed.

Substance. There is no substance out of which matter can be made for mortal or dead mind is not substantial. Its beliefs are not cause and their activity is not sustained by law. Therefore, whatever it may manifest is but the outline of a substanceless lie, with no foundation, principle or activity. The manifestation is but the shadow of the lie. A lie being substanceless, its shadow has no substance.

Cause. There is no cause for abnormal growths. God’s activity as creative Principle is the only cause. There can be no abnormal growth anywhere for cause, God, has made all that was made, and it never made inaction or matter. Therefore, this so-called tumor is not tumor, or matter, but belief, subjectively and self-imposed.

Law. There is no law for such a thing, no law that can possibly induce a fibrous growth, for from the infinite intelligence emanates all law. Stomach, being spiritual, is not subject to any such growth, is not the subject or object of such a lying theory or lie. Man, idea, is not the subject or object of such a lying theory, neither is he constitutionally liable or susceptible to such suggestion. Such suggestion cannot enter into omnipotence, and, not entering in, cannot influence consciousness. There are no such suggestions. There is no evil mind with a desire or intent to do injury, or with the power, intelligence or ability to do wrong.

The only growth is the growth into goodness, into understanding of God.

Handle the claim that surgery declares itself the only remedy.

Handle, also, the claim of physiology and materia medica which declares that hypnotic effort of physiology and materia medica is constantly exerted against the healing by Christian Science of such diseases.

What heals the sick? There never was a sick man or a sick woman. There is no sickness to be healed. Christian Science never healed sickness. Why? First, because there is no sickness to be healed. Second, because the infinite Principle knows no such thing. There is no such thing as mortal mind belief or manifestation of belief.

From the human standpoint, what heals? Does mortal mind do it? No, the Christ idea, the spiritual idea of Life does it. Is it because the spiritual idea knows anything about sickness, or because the spiritual idea is the reflected idea of Principle that knows no mortal mind belief or matter, that it heals or breaks down the belief? It is because it does not know it that it is able to do the work; i.e., to replace the untrue sense of life with the spiritual sense of Life, through its own activity as idea in human consciousness, so to speak, working or acting with human apprehension.

What, then, is the law of God?

It is the spiritual, the true, the right, the correct idea of Life. Its activity is spontaneous with itself, and its mission is to restore the spiritual,

the correct sense of living. It is the Christ, the divine manifestation which comes to the flesh (to human apprehension) to destroy incarnate error. Note its mission of activity to destroy incarnate evil.

Then what is Jesus the Christ?

It is the human concept of the Christ working in and with erring mortals, denying and destroying evil and bringing a conscious recognition of evil as evil. It is the condition of thought that recognizes evil, discerns the unlikeness to true thought-quality and so destroys it through denial.

It is your sense and my sense of the facts of being that saves us from the belief in, and reliance on, the false sense of being. In short, it is human consciousness, so to speak, working with the Christ idea in the demolition of error.

In this sense, Jesus and Christ are one. Jesus is the Christ. It is not human consciousness as a consciousness that does the destroying work. This word human as used in Science and Health designates the fact, so that we are mortals may be able to apprehend it, but in fact treatment is divine consciousness operating.

In so far as I know and declare the eternal facts of being, I am spiritual, and my consciousness is Spirit. This condition has nothing to do with human consciousness, so-called, indeed, human consciousness, so-called, has no cognizance of Spirit. Then, the consciousness of man is really the presence and activity of God’s ideas. They

are not dealing with matter, but with a conscious sense of evil, with erroneous thought.

The spiritual idea, as an active working condition of conscious thought, resolves things into thoughts and so restores all things into their rightful classification. Even error exists as thought, and must be classified as such.

All matter, so-called, must be recognized as belief of erring thought. Only in this way are we able to distinguish between Christian Science and medical science, so-called, in diagnosing disease. Christian Science sees sickness as evil thought manifested. The M.D.s see it as matter. Christian Science classifies it correctly; M.D.s wrongly.

All error manifests as thing. All error exists as erroneous concepts. The concepts are as weeds and must be uprooted, must be specifically met and mastered. Right here arises the question-do you manifest eternal Life, eternal Mind, health, peace? No. It is because you do not handle animal magnetism. It is because those weeds of human concepts are not being specifically met and mastered. It is because you are not reasoning as shown in Science and Health.

Every time you deny an error lodgment in your thought you are handling animal magnetism. There is no struggle in this work. The idea of Spirit, right, knows no struggle. The idea 2 and 2 = 4 has no struggle to meet and demolish the false concept 2 and 2 = 5. Any spiritual right idea is, and it is eternally reflecting the harmony of its

Principle. Any struggle that may take place is purely erroneous sense and is not consciousness, but is a lie actively engaged in an attempt to destroy your idea of God. See what Love-consciousness is.

Life is God. Life is eternal Life. Life is all active. Life is being and is man’s life. Then would you say there is no life in the body? No, you would know that man’s body is an idea in divine Mind, and is therefore an active, eternal expression of Life, and never for an instant stops being active Life. Stretch forth thy hand. Arise and walk. Such words of Jesus show his knowledge of the fact, and the results that followed his words reveal the effect of consciousness applied.

The aggregation of right thoughts that you and I discern and use is individual man (you and I). Illustrated when I restored the dying man. I did not declare there is no life in the body, but my declaration of Life and its active, eternal mission included an understanding of man’s likeness to God as Life, and also knowledge that such knowing includes a denial of death. The statements were structurally as declarations should be in every case.

First, a fundamental; God is Life.

Second, descriptive; Life is eternal.

Third, application; that Life is my Life illumined the consciousness when a belief and fear in death was arguing, until this aggregation of thoughts became the consciousness of the man,

and animal magnetism, as a belief in and fear of death, was destroyed-robbed of its activity and consciousness-and individual man alone remained to express itself.

All treatment means peace. If given in the nature of fighting, there is something built up in thought to fight as an adversary. Treatment means death to error. It means power. It means strength. It means dealing with thoughts. Then again comes the question-How does Jesus Christ heal? By meeting every discord as a claim of mortal mind, not as a thing; by applying the fact to the lie, and so displacing it in thought. Application in practice.

Who heals? Does man heal? What is the healer? The divine idea alone heals. Man cannot displace the wrong thought. The right thought alone can do that. Then can a man heal? Can belief heal? No. Here lies the great necessity of having your affirmation clearly defined in thought so as to enable you to deny with accuracy and understanding. Get the structure of your argument clearly defined, and your denial will be with authority.

Formulated thought works actively in the passive consciousness of the patient.

Case of scarlet fever. Infant. It is action of mortal mind-a claim of animal poison. No substance. Why? No cause as infection, fear, poison, contagion, belief in necessity of sickness, etc. No law to crate, convey or to distribute scarlet fever. No space in which it could act. Contagions and infection are but the mesmeric action of a belief in

infantile diseases and is a claim of prenatal influence, because everything must exist as mind before it is manifest. So sin is in solution before it is formed as concept. Sin existed as a false claim before the human concept of sin. Sin is not cause. All such mesmeric influence is as much a part of the child as his nose is a part of him (human concept). Therefore, the child is born with this law of prenatal influence as part of him. Conception proceeds according to law (so-called). The child is born according to law and this concept of child and law proceeds to destroy itself. Christian Science reveals this intermediary or subconscious state, and this puts into the hands of the practitioner the weapon that destroys it, and frees humanity from the so-called law of sin and death.

So when a child is born, what do you have? Matter and a subconscious state of mortal mind.

Christian Science shows there is an intermediary subconsciousness (prenatal mesmerism or the result of the belief of mortals called animal magnetism) between mortal mind and body and that organic action proceeds automatically to carry out the beliefs of animal magnetism. This subconscious state begins its activity with conception, which is according to law, and birth, which is according to law. So, when birth takes place, we have two things, matter and subconsciousness. Then the disease is not in matter but in subconsciousness or mesmeric belief.

The law of thought-transference should be handled in every case.

Scrofula. Patient 40 years old. To illustrate another phase of the same error. Case claims to be hereditary or transmitted from parent to child.

Substance. There is no consciousness to transmit evil because there is no consciousness of evil. The substance of man is good, and his only heritage is the substance of God.

Cause. No sin, no evil practices, no sensualism, vice, pollution, parasite. Law says it is poison, animal poison, the result of sin. It says man’s blood is poisoned, produced by a microbe.

Where has the microbe been the 39 years the patient did not have scrofula? Dread produced the outbreak, and old theology says it is in accord with the law of God (second Commandment).

All is Spirit and spiritual. There can be no poison anywhere to pollute man’s life. No space in which poison can act. No time for it to appear. No microbe to destroy man’s body. The eternal idea of God, man, cannot be destroyed or devastated. Microbe is not a cause, not a thing; is not an idea in Mind. Man is not subject to such law, is not the object of it; is not constitutionally liable nor susceptible to any such suggestions as law.

EVIL-MATTER

Show the necessity of recognizing and handling specifically all so-called laws of matter. Show, also, that treatment must cover the ground of the claim involved that is presented for destruction.

In handling any case, in that it is a claim of mortal mind calling itself discord when man is God’s image and likeness, always strike at mortal mind as its (the claim’s) origin, else you do not meet it as mental activity, and it will seem matter to you.

If not recognized as a claim of mortal mind, you are handling matter headache and you will fail.

Handling animal magnetism means handling mentality.

Handling animal magnetism means mental activity and this must be done primarily with a serene understanding of God. Secondly, such understanding must become consciously active so as to demolish the claim.

First, then, we see what head is and by what governed. Then we continue with our argument, that substance cannot ache. No cause for such a claim. Sin is not cause; fear is not cause.

Include specific work on any claim of sin that may be uncovered.

Law includes the claim of brain, nerves, etc., that physiology may suggest.

Fear of death is the seat of all disease. Mortal mind has its fundamental pretenses. It claims to be a creator. It claims that it has matter, bones, substance, laws of action, form, etc. Its fundamental law is that it can kill as well as create, and then its

law is to kill and devour its own progeny. So fear of death is the seat of all disease.

Every treatment must include a denial of sin. Envy, anger, fear, revenge, malice, jealousy, hatred are the seven points of sin. Hatred includes passions, animal poisons.

In handling claim of cause, do not fail to handle sin as a claim. Analyze every phase of it. If envy, no pleasure in it, no substance in it, nothing to envy or to be envious of, etc.

We have a right to expect an immediate uncovering of the claim of cause in any disease, and we must know that what we need to know of any case will come to us. Even the laws, so-called, of physiology will come to us, if we need a knowledge of such to break the mesmerism of disease.

Illustration. A claim of heart disease was being handled. The practitioner in conversation with a student learned that it is believed that there are pneumogastric nerves in the stomach, and sympathetic nerves in the stomach; that an irritation of any part of the stomach conveys itself to these nerves and they disturb the entire system. Some of these symptoms are palpitation of the heart, headache, pains in the chest and back, whooping cough.

In cases where no disease or symptoms are given, we must touch all the claims of evil that come to thought.

Attack three primary claims; substance, cause, law.

For example, Substance. No animal magnetism, matter, over-action, inaction, sin, reaction, fear, physical structure, belief, no material conditions.

Cause. No heredity, M.D. transference of thought, hygiene, health laws, osteopathy, anatomy.

Law. No physiology, sanitary, climatic, palmistry, astrology, spiritualism, fatalism, destiny.

There is no overaction resulting in a deposit of morbific poisoning, no law of nature, so-called. Patient cannot be subject to poisons, animal, vegetable or mineral. Patient has no fear of death, hell or evil. He knows no sin of sensualism or vice, is not subject to their influence. He is not governed by thought-transference.

It is a claim of animal life consuming man. The body of man (divine understanding) cannot be consumed. This is a belief that flesh is mortal, that it is being destroyed, that there is such a thing as a microbe that wants to or can destroy the body of man. Man is not subject to any such thing.

EVIL MIND

The claim of evil mentality. The most difficult thing to recognize is the claim of malicious mind.

Suppose a claim of a child with measles, and the surrounding thought of the people is ignorant of Christian Science and willing to try it. That is ignorant animal magnetism, simply matter, and can only think error. How long will it take to dispose of it? The simple meeting it demolishes it.

There is no sick body. No one has measles. No measles.

Now, suppose a trained M.D. nurse with a trained M.D. thought and a touch of malice is added to the case. M.D. laws relative to measles, contagion, etc., must be specifically handled. Another and more urgent form of malice is now added. A sting directed at parents for permitting such nonsense as Christian Science treatment. This phase must be handled also. We shall go further. Now a lot of people know of the case who also know something of medical law, and who hope the case will not recover. The practitioner must know, as in previous stages, that there is no one to think of that case. God does not know it. No man, woman or child to know it. No mind to think or desire evil or desire to do evil. No man, woman or child to be vicious or to wish evil of. Nothing to die or wish death for. Finally, other people appear who declare the child will not get well. Treat directly against hypnotism and hypnotic influence.

Mortal mind as the counterfeit of divine Mind claims to be infuriated and therefore finds a channel to do anything. Also, because of its claim to infinity it will do all evil until it is put out of the way. All must be recognized as a belief.

Fear (the complication), condemnation of self will not get rid of evil. It must be destroyed. In such cases a thought of discouragement may come. The point of victory here is to recognize that you are not discouraged, but that you are but reflecting the touch of animal magnetism from the minds that would stop your work. That is not inability to handle the claim. The thing to do is to see that the suggestion of evil is not you. It is mesmerism that says, “I am discouraged. I am afraid”; it is not you and must be recognized as hypnotic suggestion. Meet them with “I am not discouraged, I am not afraid.” Break the fear of disease or fear. Know it is not your fear.

The above illustrates ignorant uneducated, malicious thought. This is what Christian Science calls mental malpractice.

There is another phase of mental malpractice. It is the highest form of evil. It is educated and intentionally directed. It is exerted for malicious purposes. If you can handle this, you can cure any case; it includes all the lesser phases. The condition of thought that sees mental malpractice as personality cannot handle it. Mental malpractice

has no personality though which it can act.

All forms of occultism are educated forms of thought. They know the power of mind.

Theology, theosophy, spiritualism, witchcraft, hypnotism, false science, black art, esoteric magic, orientalism, are educated evil. They claim to be Mind, wisdom, Truth, power, substance, intelligence. We must know there is no channel or medium through which they can operate.

Mortal mind has no evil personality through which it can act or reflect itself through thought transference, or a belief in minds many.

No law of mental malpractice was ever made. There is no such law-maker, and no such case. Man is not under such law and is not the object of it, not susceptible or liable to its influence. Hence, this patient or this business, is not under any such law.

There are no mental malpractitioners.

There is no cause to mental malpractice. Such so-called influence cannot educate a belief in sickness. It cannot act through sin, through a claim of envy, appetites or passions, jealousy, hatred, etc. It cannot act through belief in health laws, M.D. or poisonous drugs. This false claim cannot exert any influence of poison hypnotically administered.

Revenge of disloyal students has no formulated, sinful or subtle laws.

First thought. Arsenical poison hypnotically directed and administered cannot produce an irritated condition of the digestive system.

This law has never been broken, and it should be handled until it is.

Second thought. Relapse. Law that Christian Scientists and their patients shall have a return of old beliefs and irritation.

Handle arsenical poison and above.

Take out all power as a primary cause, claim or remedy. Then take up its progeny symptoms. Then its claim to act through persons. Then see that it cannot as a belief do anything. Is not cause or remedy. It never did anything.

Eyes are healed by handling this and mercurial poison.

Poison, hypnotically administered, and relapse, have no power of intelligence to use a claim of food, or climate, or any other condition or thing as harmful. Cannot cause a return of sin, or induce sin. Has no intelligence to suggest inactivity, paralysis, accumulation of poisons, secretions in the body, decompositions, abnormal growths, etc., whatever the claim or condition may be.

There is no mortal mind to act or be acted upon and no matter to manifest it. It knows nothing that exists. It does not know this patient. This patient is not the object or subject of such belief.

Strike the blow of demolition at mortal mind. It has no intelligence, no substance, no law, no cause, no progeny. It has nothing, and nobody to act through.

Evil can’t act as person or as an evil belief, can’t act through any channel or medium such as

hypnotism, spiritualism, etc., or through any isms.

There are no men or women to mesmerize or to be mesmerized.

Evil’s object is not Mind, God, it is erroneous concept. It has no subject. It never did anything to a Christian Scientist. It never did anything to anyone.

Case of prosecution at law.

See what error is likely to do and forestall it. Don’t wait for it to act first (this is an important point in any condition at all times).

If in a case at law, for example, you know clearly and all the time that error cannot do anything right, that it can’t do anything at all, you will find it pretty well used up.

The Word of God declares the unfitness of error. It can’t make itself heard. There is nothing to hear. In such cases handle clairvoyance. All true active thought, motive, and purpose is in divine Mind. Mortal mind cannot read or cognize it, for clairvoyance has no action or rule.

The law you make says that clairvoyance cannot read what you are thinking of or doing.

Mortal mind has no rule or law by which it can subtract or deduct from your thought, your motive or conduct.

Aggressive suggestion is the continuous and intentionally directed suggestion, and differs from

other forms in that it is continuous and persistent in its endeavor to wear the student out.

Romanism claims to bestow a curse. Also, to furnish all the machinery through which the curse operates.

Ascension represents the individuality of Christ. That state of consciousness is the pattern, and we are to be not a whit less.

Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

Infinite Mind, from which all proceeds, the fundamental Mind, is the Father.

Sonship is the individual state of consciousness, none other than self. Let the ideas come in until they fill the conscious thought as self-hood.

Holy Ghost-the Spirit of Truth, the science of being which defines being as the whole Truth about everything.

Infinite Mind, the Father.

Christ, true idea as Son.

Spirit, or Science of Truth, is Holy Ghost.

If your patient does not respond after you have done all, search self, pray.

Declare for uncovering, expecting it. Treat expecting results.

Abide in God.
